He's (been) here.

Well, we are 4.5 weeks into our precious Owen. We had a wonderful holiday and now things are quieting down at the Archer home. Thanksgiving came and Christmas went. O arrived Wednesday November 23, 2011 at 9:39 am, keeping his mama up all night long for his arrival. He is just precious and we are so in love.

Hours old laying in the bed with mama. More to come, including birth story and updated photos!

Robbed

So People Mag has released their "Sexiest Man Alive" issue. And while B Cooper is easy on the blue eyes, my man got ROBBED. I have only seen photos online, but where is (my) Jon Hamm? I am stunned and extremly disappointed. Mr. Hamm, you will always be number 1 in my heart.

 seriously?

smoldering.

and he obviously likes to have fun.

Lastly, this video should have sealed the deal. But WHATEVER!

Mama Gear

So just another reason to pop this LOAD out (yes, my belly/baby has been referenced as a LOAD) --- We are getting our very own H&M store people! The ginormous metropolis that is "The DASH". Us, getting a fancy 2 story H&M.  Should be interesting....  Just checked out the website to see if anything tickles my fancy.... I am such a slouch monster. Give me a cozy sweater and some jeans and I am a happy girl.

Lovely camel cardigan. My winter staple. Easy. Comfy.

Yes I know, basically the exact same sweater.... but this one has that leather belt detail. See?
Totally different.

Now we are talking. This is work/church/mom appropriate. Just add french twist and pearls.
Done and done.

Grand Opening is Thursday November 17. Go get you some.

The one with the green door...

What are the odds hubs will let me do this over the weekend?

You know, the house with the green door...just seems so fitting and as there is only 9 days until my due date this is just a crucial task to accomplish before baby O comes. right???

Brass

I am really starting to accept the look of brass as an essential.  Maybe it takes me a while to catch on. But I dig it.

And one more thing...

Hi-Larious!  Can't wait to see this one.

Friday thanks...

In honor of November and the forgotten holiday of Thanksgiving, I will give thanks today for a few people that basically get me through life, especially these days.

1. My sweet loving hubs.
He has been unbelievably wonderful during our special time. Not that I would expect anything less. This guy always hits it out of the park.  Always there to cook me dinner, hug me and rub the belly, tell me how pretty I am (which no one believes at 37 weeks but loves to hear), and paint a dresser.  He is going to be the absolute best dad and I can't be more thankful for him.  I hope this boy has his sweet, kind eyes and his warm, open heart. And his shoe style - check out those flip flops. Perfect for painting.

2. These lovely ladies.

When we got pregnant we hit the motherload for baby Owen to have some of the best friends imaginable.  These are just SOME of my friends who are giving birth in the next months (or have already popped!) Seriously - there's like 10 of us in that picture. WS knows how to pump out some kiddies. And I can't wait for each of them.

3.  The grammas, nanas, ggs, mimis, whatever they will be called.

Our moms. Words can't describe how much I love these two ladies. They are beyond amazing and will do basically anything we ask (or don't ask) to help us.  They are beyond giddy to hold their first grandson and I don't think they will ever know how thankful John and I are for them and their awesome love.

Happy Friday and weekend friends.

November is here

November is my baby boy's birth month.  I have finally gotten around to taking some photos of his nursery...still missing valances for the windows and the hubs really wants a rug. But rugs are hard!  I am pretty happy with it so far.  It is simple and special, with lots of love.

Lots of special little touches -
Changing table and shelf - craigslist dresser, shelf was in our attic. Hubs/Dad painted both with his loving hands :)

I think this shelf might be my favorite part.  We had a box of toys from John's childhood and used them all to fill the shelves. From baseball figurines to cute cars, and then adding in our own new touches with the TOMS and Sophie.  The Piels characters were created by his grandpa Jack, and we are so happy to have them in the room.

Moses basket for those first days on loan by my dear friend Laura. Bumbo borrowed by another sweet friend.  A few outfits on display.

My chair I am sure I will spend many nights and early mornings rocking our sweet boy.  The pillow was made by my mom and the quilt was made by John's mom.

Last, the crib.  Bedding made by friends of my mother and I love it. Blanket fabric found on etsy (of course). Green bear made by Aunt Chrissy and Duck was brought home from our summer trip to the Outer Banks.

That is about it for now...still a work in progress of course. But I love nothing more than to go in and sit in my chair and think about holding baby Owen and watching him crawl around the floor and play and enjoy the special space John and I created for him.

In my former life

There was this show I was obsessed with called Mad Men. My late summer/early fall hasn't been the same without it, as it is not airying yet. Which is fine because I would have to DVR since I can't stay up anymore to see it firsthand. But I saw this while perusing PEOPLE.COM and I need to know....

What has she done to make my Donny look so upset?  Where oh where are you Mad Men? I could really use you about now...

And back to our regularly scheduled program. There has been much updates in the way of little man's nusery. I hope once the windows are complete I can get a photo up here for the world (or the 2 people who read me) to see. It's pretty presh if you ask my humble mama opinon.  5 more weeks!

baby wardrobe update

Just scooped up these cute duds on DUE Maternity.  *Where I found my dress for Bro's wedding* They are having a great sale going on with 50% off some great necessities.

Our little guy is going to be one dapper fella if I have anything to do with it.

I really want one of those blue ones for me.  How comfy does that thing look?

8 weeks to go people. 8 weeks.

Praise baby jesus our little baby boy will not be here in time for Halloween.  Or he might just be this guy due to his crazy papa.

For those of you who were wondering...

Due Maternity website

This one worked much better, thank you.  Although I can barely get the ties to go around to the back of me so good for her for being able to loop it around a few times. I must have really wanted a purple dress. But I will not be going with a purple shoe. by then I will probably be in a wheel chair due to my size and other ailments.  Hopefully the power of positive thinking will come around soon....

9.11

I had my moment hearing Mr. Simon sing this lovely song. Tears. Beautiful truth through his words that can't even touch on what the victims have felt from loosing their loved ones.

this could be it...

So in case you were not aware my sweet brother is getting married around the end of October. I will be a blessed 37 weeks. Pregnant.  I hope to be able to walk much less ANYTHING else by that time.  His darling fiance understood when I bowed out of my bridesmaid duties.  Of course that leaves me with trying to find a dress that is:

a. attractive
b. fits
3. isn't a lotta cash because hopefully I won't be wearing this again anytime soon
d. is just a nice dress and doesn't scream I'm about to pop open at any moment

So I found this one.

Hopefully it will suit me okay.  fingers crossed. I will let you know how it turns out. the bump is definitely bigger than her's up there....

just a few things I miss around here....

Yesterday we got a Lands End catalog in the mail.  Specifically their Canvas goodies.  Reminded me how much I love fall- with plaid button downs and cardigans and cute jeans (that button)....6 months of this is so overrated.  Once the bub starts kicking and moving, I think he's ready to come on out.  (I have no patience, can you tell?)  These were just a few that caught my eye. Maybe next fall?

Love the chambray and added bonus for polka dots...

I love a turtleneck sweater.

Very cute dress.

This is one I could probably do now. But would prefer to have a waist.

Bye summa time...

Labor day weekend is upon us and we are heading down to our beloved Wrightsville to see friends and their babies and relax in the sun. Here's to hoping everyone will stay at school/Charlotte for the football games and the beach will be nice and quiet. (Here's to hoping)
Have a nice safe LD weekend.

Another one to add to the "our next house will have" list.  A screened in porch. Yes Please.

bedroom blues...

Lately the bedroom has just not been doing it for me. I don't know if it is the creaky old mattress or the lack of sleep from almost entering my 3rd trimester (!!!) but it is seriously lacking something for me.  The walls are a tanish brown (Wilmington Tan to be exact - I love when I can remember a fun paint color) and below is our bedding.  I love the paisley and the colors. But it needs something. Some pop somewhere...I love mixing patterns but I think this one is overtaking me and I don't know what to do.  I need to bring in something. But what?

I love purple in a room. Reminds me of my college bedroom.

Lace bedding overlay for some umfff.

I think the ceiling is doing it for me here. Def not the chandy...

Score!

Just scored these for the nursery....what a steal! (Go to Zulily for all tings baby and 'discounted')

SO excited to frame and hang these cuties!

I know this blog is being taken over by baby stuff. So difficult not to, it consumes me these days!

So in other worldly news, my dear friend Heather showed me this amazing video on Saturday and we tried it on her hair - and it came out great!  I highly recommend for those long haired locks...Makes me wish I hadn't chopped mine off! And I just love this chicks accent. Where does YT find these people? Gooo Sock Bun!

Another lovely online magazine.

Please go. Run and check out the latest issue from House of Fifty.  I have no idea what the title of the magazine is about.  But there were more articles that I enjoyed in that mag than I have read in a while.  Seriously helpful things about curtains and entertaining and decorating from scratch.  I ain't gonna lie to ya. Read on.

First Birthday of my favorite one so far...

Today you turn 1 year old. A whole year has gone by since I showed up on that hospital floor not even a couple of hours after you were born.  What felt like an eternity since we were so excited to meet you and what now seems 2 minutes since your mama was still barely coherent.  She handed you to me before either of your other 2 grandmas! {Now, in my opinion that was completely inappropriate}. But you had my heart at first glance.  Until your best friend Owen comes along, I won't know how much it means to love a child of my own, but having you in my life has taught me a lot. Your face lights up so many peoples hearts and so many people think you are just the best kid ever. And I am one of them, and will always be. I can't wait to see you celebrate your first birthday and dive into that big cupcake your mama has made for you with such love and care. Be smart and sweet Wade Hefner. To many many more birthdays to come.

Love, Abby

take that serena & lily

Thanks to Better Homes and Gardens I will have an cute pouf for my baby's room.

It may not be a hot, leather one like you've seen here. But it will be made with love and stuffed with old towels and crazy things of the sort.
Go to bhg and search pouf. You can login to the site and get a lovely PDF of the instructions. Mom, get ready, we will make this happen!
