What is Katie Holmes doing in my JCrew?

Did you notice? She and that hottie Josh Doomel (spell it like it sounds) along with the rest of the cast of my new favorite movie "The Romantics" were featured all chummy in the latest JCrew catalog. The trailor looks awesome, but I am quickly reminded of this classic..

still a little obssessed..

Soho, NY. Makes me think of Fall. It's coming...And I'm ready.

you only turn 30 once

Today is my bestie Jennifer's birthday. We had a party over the weekend at her home in Charlotte and her phone accidently went home with Laura (the other bestie). So poor girl (who has recently deleted her facebook) has no phone and won't receive any of her birthday wishes until she gets it back - probably tomorrow. In honor of her most speical day - oh yes, it's not only 30 but her golden birthday (30 on the 30) I have dedicated today's blog post to her.

When we are together we are smiling big, typically getting into something, turning heads and proving that friends are always the spice of life. You are the best friend a girl could wish for and I am so lucky to have you by my side! Have a great day girl!!

LOVE!

I have a confession...

I am not a big city girl. BUT ever since I have been home from our 5 days in NYC I can't stop thinking of it all. What I saw and where I went. These are just a few pics I took on our trip. A few favs not shown - Upper East side (Gramp's hood), Upper West Side -quiet, quaint love, Park Ave, the beautiful church of St. Bart's, just to name a few.

And - we stumbled upon this our last night after dinner. Drinks on Jeff Lewis' porch. Even the hubs was excited.

hello...

My apologies for it being so quiet around here these past few days. John's grandfather passed away suddenly Saturday the 14th. We spent the end of last week in NYC celebrating his life and spending time with family. Jack Sidebotham was the loveliest of men and made me feel so welcomed the moment we met. Heck, the moment we spoke on the phone. I will treasure the time John and I spent with him and each little card and note he sent us. The lump that remains in my throat is evident enough to how special he was to us. I have some photos taken while we were psuedo New Yorkers in our little midtown abode that I will post this evening.
The city was magical as ever and weather was perefct. However, the whole time I was there it just felt as though we were missing someone...

If you read my blog you know we had planned a trip up to see Jack and Bern in just a few weeks. Oh what I wouldn't give to have those 3 days to spend with them. Now we are getting back into our routines and life will go on. But it will never be the same.

a little ditty

Just a little something to make your heart smile on this lovely Friday (the 13th!)

We have almost been married 1 whole year and while it's not been the easiest thing I've ever done, I am sure happy I did. John makes me laugh when I wanna scream, cry with tears of joy, he can make me smile with a look, and always makes me feel loved and special, which is all I ever asked. I anxiously await all the wonderful things to come.

This sweet ditty reminds me of those early days. How quickly we knew we loved each other and were so happy to find one another.

Pretty Pantries

I bet you thought that said Pretty Panties didn't you?? I know, I am a sneaky devil.

But seriously. What is it about a full stocked pantry that makes my heart smile? In my next house I want a big walk-in sha-bang for all my dry goodies, platters, pitchers, salsa, cookies and soups.

It is just so reaffirming to have groceries staring back at you, am I right? But seriously - who eats that many pickles? Kinda alarming, just a bit...

All white and clear containers for dry goods. Do you rock this way?
This would be more my style I believe. We are lucky in our tiny kitchen to have a nice pantry with built in shelves. I probably took one look in it and was sold. Didn't even notice the ugly.

Bridge

I came across this slide show via Vanity Fair and it reminded me of the summer after the hubs and I were dating we took a vacation to New York to visit his Gramps which included a nice jump from city to country. City was short and rainy, but country was the length of our stay and it was a hard place to leave. My Hamptons is Bridgehampton and it's quiet, simple and lovely. The home was cozy and full of books and old photos and a kitchen I would dream for - nothing new or flashy, but filled with collections over the years. Cookbooks, cake stands, pitchers, vases. And the best part of course were the gardens. Bernadette, Gramp's wife, has lovely gardens throughout the grounds and impeccable and lovely taste.

My Hamptons..

De Casa.

A snippet of Bernadette's lovely garden.

Gramps at the vineyard for happy hour.

All the hedges in the Hamptons are perfectly trimmed and straight.

The beach that had no shells.

If ya don't know, now ya know...

Furbish Studio has been birthed by it's awesome mama Jamie Meares. ps I can say I knew her before she had the store. She always had the style - and now she's living the Dream.

Mater Love

The best thing about this summer (besides CABO) has been our little garden we started in May. German Johnson tomato plants we put in the ground and agreed we would just see what happened. We did pull off the "suckers" when we saw them, and of course gave them some water but at one point they got to about 7 feet tall (not even kidding) and a few weeks ago and huge storm broke off some of the stems and my heart broke with them (luckily the tomatoes still ripened). Last week the hubs picked about 4 lovely maters and we cooked the most awesome dinner.com. If you love all things tomatoes, go to the link below and give it a try. So easy and Soo yum.

Happy Weekend

Now that August is here we into the home stretch of summer. It's a perfect weekend for doing pretty much nothing. My agenda consists of pulling weeds, laying by the pool, cooking our first Tomato Pie with the hubs, spending time with friends and attending a surprise party to wrap up the weekend.

Oh yes, and Mad Men. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

I Like Your Style.

I have never been much of a fan of Miss Alba's, but the pap love her. The girl is in US Weekly or People every week. I am enjoying this outfit, accessories including the pellegrino, yum. It would be something I think I could rock in this 100+ heat index days. Yesh.
However, this weekend is calling for high 80's and no rain so I am going to pool it all weekend. My heart may be longing for fall, but I'm going to take the rays while I can.
Happy Hump day! We are almost to the weekend. The only thing that would make my day would be to win this fabulous giveaway from the fab Lil Bee with these awesome gals!

Patio Love

Our patio in all it's glory this summer. When I look at this I am so happy and proud of our hard work and what a great spot it is for us to enjoy now. We are throwing our Supper Club next Saturday and am so looking forward to having everyone over and toasting the evening - sans kids, which has not been done since 2006!

B A N A N A S

In honor of the return of the Zoe. Some of her picks from my favorite go-to site. Here's to seeing what really happened with Taylor, Rodger's cute arse, Brad's bowties, and all the drama!
Season 3 I'm ready for ya!

p.s. I'm dying for that BAG.
